Climbing
classic West coast peaks
The Western side of the Southern Alps of New Zealand offer many
beautiful climbs of classic peaks, many below the 3000m level,
presenting very achievable objectives for the mountaineer
Gary's knowledge of this iconic mountain region over the last
30 years will provide you with an experience of achievement during
an inspiring week of mountaineering in this magical and rewarding
part of the NZ mountains. This is truly Gary's preferred backyard,
but like many really rewarding places to visit, requires knowledge
and skill to access and egress - you can tap into this.
Easy classic summits include the likes of Moonlight 2700m; Meteor
2624m, Aurora 2663m all from the comfortable base of Centennial
hut in the Franz Josef neve.
The peaks along the spine of the Fritz range like Triad 2649m,
Halcombe 2659m and Von Bulow 2600m are also accessible from either
Centennial hut or Pioneer hut and Grey peak is another option from
Pioneer hut.
More demanding classic peaks for the experienced alpinist on the
Western side are the Minarets, Haidinger, Lendenfeld, Glacier Peak.
The vastness of Fox and Franz Josef glaciers is mind boggling and
beautiful.
Helicopter access and egress is well established for this region
and helps make logistics possible and comfortable so you can access
and experience this awesome world.
Join Gary to witness and enjoy spectacular sunsets and views down
to the West coast surf, from the middle of immense glaciation.
If you like wilderness and have an adventure spirit, then the wild
West coast alpinism experience is for you.
